Visiting the Centre
Arriving by Train
Colchester is well connected by rail, particularly from London and other parts of the UK.
From London
Direct trains run regularly from London Liverpool Street to Colchester North.
Journey time is approximately 45–55 minutes, depending on the service.
Trains are operated by Greater Anglia.
Local Stations
There are two main stations in Colchester:
Colchester North (mainline station – recommended)
Colchester Town (smaller, local services)
Most visitors should use Colchester North, as it offers the most frequent services and is easiest for onward travel.
From the Station to the Dhamma Centre
Taxi from Colchester North
Taxis are available directly outside the station.
Typical journey time: 5–10 minutes, depending on traffic.
Approximate fare: £6–£10.
Taxi from Colchester Town
Journey time: 5–10 minutes.
Approximate fare: £5–£8.
Taxi prices may vary depending on time of day and provider. We recommend pre-booking an uber, which usually comes out more cost-effective, however metre taxi’s are available at the main entrance/exit of the train station.
Walking
Walking from either station is possible but not recommended for first-time visitors, particularly if you are unfamiliar with the area or carrying belongings for a retreat. Should you prefer to walk, it would take between 40 mins to 50 mins.
Arriving by Car
Colchester is accessible via the A12, which connects London and East Anglia.
Follow signs for Colchester and then local directions as advised in your booking confirmation.
Limited on-site or nearby parking may be available depending on the event.
Please arrive early to allow time for parking and settling in.
If you are attending a retreat or longer programme, we recommend checking parking arrangements in advance.
Arrival Guidance
Please arrive 10–15 minutes before the start of your session to allow time to settle.
Wear comfortable clothing suitable for meditation.
