About the Practice

Qigong (pronounced “chee-gong”) is an ancient practice from Traditional Chinese Medicine that integrates gentle movement, breath awareness and mindful focus. It’s often described as “moving meditation” — simple, fluid, accessible, and powerful in its effects.

Unlike high-intensity workouts, Qigong teaches you to move with awareness, to breathe with intention, and to reconnect your body and mind in a supportive, community setting.

Chinese masters and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) principles, Qigong (气功) is defined as the "skill" (gong) of cultivating and mastering "vital energy" (qi). It is a comprehensive, ancient system of self-healing and self-cultivation that coordinates gentle, flowing movement, rhythmic breathing, and focused mental intent to balance the body's internal energy.

About Elise

During her acupuncture clinic training in Guangzhou University Hospital, China, in 1988 she studied Qi Gong with Master Chen Yan Feng - the particular form ‘Prenatal Energy Qi Gong’ (there are 36,000 forms of Qi Gong !)

Elise then brought this Form back to England and as a Founder Member of the Shiatsu College London, she taught all the main teachers this Form which has circulated throughout the UK since then.

Thereafter Elise has been practising and teaching the Form and and considers this one of the best disciplines she learnt in China : without doubt it has enhanced her health and well-being immensely throughout the years .

Elise has continued to enjoy teaching the Qi Gong form in many Health clubs and community Village halls as well as private sessions and is greatly looking forward to teaching in the new Dhamma Centre and sharing her wonderful experience with others.

Why This Matters ?

In today’s busy world, stress and tension can accumulate in both body and mind. Qigong offers a chance to pause and restore:

  • Calm and stress regulation — Slow, mindful movement coordinated with breath helps quiet the nervous system and reduce chronic tension.

  • Improved balance, flexibility and circulation — The gentle, flowing movements support joint mobility and can improve posture and fluidity over time.

  • Enhanced energy and vitality — Practicing Qigong regularly cultivates a sense of grounded energy that supports daily activity and general wellbeing.

  • Mind-body connection — Qigong encourages presence, bringing attention back to breath and movement — essential skills for emotional balance and clarity.
